I have spent the last few days feeling miserable. Nights have been sleepless. The list of symptoms ever changing. Everything from headaches to stomach aches, chills, cough, congestions. I got the whole cocktail. It has not been fun. Between naps, I have turned to YouTube. I've been surprised to find an assortment of videos and documentaries of some great photographers. Some names I recognized, others were completely new to me.
This is my view from my recliner.
I watched an interview about fashion photographer Helmut Newton and was able to learn about his photographic process. From concept to completion, I watched his interaction with models, saw footage of him during a shoot and got some insight into his approach to photography. I also watched a couple of different lectures from current fashion photographers and listened to them discuss their work, while answering audience questions.
Because I tend to work in isolation while developing concepts, it was nice to hear about how other photographers approached their projects. The opportunity to listen about the creative process of some exceptionally talented photographers was a productive way to spend an otherwise miserable, sick day. While I don't like being sick, it wound up being useful time and gave me things to think about for when I'm feeling better and thinking about the next project.
In the meantime, I'll keep taking my meds and get some rest.
